Cambridge City Engineer Records
Collection
Identifier: CHC066
Collection Description
This collection consists of an assortment of books and one rolled item from the Cambridge Office of the City Engineer. The books cover a period from about 1860 to 1908. Examples of the content in the books are plot drawings, measurements, transcribed land deeds and abstracts, field notes, newspaper clippings, mathematical calculations, and copied legal documents. Many of the books do not name their creators. Identified creators include Ernest Girard, E.F. Bowker, and L.M. Hastings. Hasting’s work is a scrapbook of newspaper articles, making it an outlier in the collection. Cambridge neighborhoods mentioned, but not limited to, are the Washington Street district and the Franklin Street district.
