History

The Rindge Technical School, originally the Cambridge Manual Training School, was a boys-only school founded in 1888 after Cambridge received a donation from Frederick H. Rindge. Rindge was a businessman from Cambridge who moved to California. The school was renamed the Rindge Manual Training School in 1899 and its benefactor remained invested in the school through the turn of the century. Students were taught technical trades such as woodworking and firefighting. Sports were also a part of the Rindge Technical School, beginning with football. In 1977, the Rindge Technical School merged with Cambridge Latin high school and became the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.
