Megan Brook, born in New York City in 1952 to Alexander Bacon Brook and Anneke Wagenaar Brook, comes from an artistic family, including her mother, her grandparents (Peggy and Alexander Bacon), and her great grandparents (Elizabeth Chase and Charles Roswell Bacon). The Brook family, along with Megan and her two siblings moved to Northern New Jersey before settling in the Kennebunk region of Maine. Her father was a journalist who purchased and ran the York County Coast Star, among other local newspapers.

Beginning in the 10th Grade, Brook attended Abbott Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, graduating in 1970. She attended college in Pennsylvania and Connecticut before graduating from the Springfield Technical Community College in 1976 with an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Arts Technology. After taking classes in book design at the New England School of Art and Design on Newbury Street, Brook became a book designer in the text book division of former Boston publisher Allyn & Bacon. Soon thereafter, she became a freelance designer and pursued a variety of artistic endeavors, including drawing, tile making, tile decorating, and eggshell painting – joining an arts cooperative, the Christmas Store, to sell her work. She gave up drawing around 2002 because of arthritis.

Brook and her partner, Wayne Barron, have lived on Inman Street in Cambridge since 1979. In the 1980s and 1990s, Brook drew several houses in the mid Cambridge area as well as botanicals she discovered in the city.
