History
Simeone’s Italian-American Restaurant opened on February 18, 1946 by Joseph and Anthony Simeone. The restaurant was a longtime dream for Joseph, who used to write home about starting his own restaurant while serving in World War II. By 1948, two more brothers, Stanley and Victor, had joined the business. Located at 21-29 Brookline Street just outside of Central Square, the restaurant became a popular spot to enjoy classic Italian foods and great family-run service (“Servizio Con Sorriso” or “Service with a Smile” was printed on all of their menus). By the 1970s, the restaurant boasted three large dining rooms and sold approximately 200 pizzas per day. The cuisine grew to be well-liked by locals and visitors alike, attracting everyone from the Kennedys to Tony Curtis to the stars of the 1980 Olympic Hockey team. Unfortunately, the restaurant fell victim to a fire on March 28, 1976 and was never reopened. Joseph Simeone later joined the faculty at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School until his death in 1988.
