Biography

Timothy Dungan-Levant was born in New York City in 1952 to John and Esther Dungan. Dungan-Levant's father was a teacher in the New York City public schools. Dungan-Levant cites his grandfather, Joseph Vincent Dungan, a painter whose artwork filled Dungan-Levant's childhood home, as his early inspiration. Dungan-Levant grew up in North Merrick in Nassau County, New York and studied music in high school. He attended SUNY Binghamton to study theater, graduating in 1975 and moving to the Boston area. In February 1982, Dungan-Levant moved to Cambridge, which became his home base. He has lived in Seattle, Los Angeles, Vermont, Montreal, the English Midlands, and Spain - yet always returns to Cambridge. Dungan-Levant was introduced to photography in 2000 and started to photograph seriously in 2003.
